1. Marbles and Toffees: A Story of Honesty – (5 Inspirational stories)
Once, two children were playing separately in the garden. Among the two children, there was a boy who was playing with marbles (glass balls), and on the other side, there was a girl who was swinging. The girl had a lot of toffees in her pocket, and she was also eating them. Then the girl’s eyes fell on the boy who was playing with marbles.
The girl had never seen marbles before, so she liked them very much. The girl went to the boy and said, “Can you give me the marbles?” The boy flatly refused to give the marbles to the girl. Then the girl said, “If you give me the marbles, I will give you my candy.”
The boy thought for a while and said to her, ‘Okay! But I have a condition. You give me all the candies in your pocket, and I will give you all the marbles in my pocket.
The girl happily agreed. She took out all the toffees from her pocket and gave them to the boy.
The boy was a little deceiver. He put his hand in his pocket and took out only half of the marbles, giving them to the girl, and said, ‘Here are all my marbles.
The girl was very happy after getting the marbles and went home joyfully.
The boy also returned home. While sleeping at night, this thought occurred to him: ‘Just as I gave half of my marbles to that girl, she also tricked me by giving me only half of the toffee.’ Thinking about this drove him crazy. He remained restless the whole night and couldn’t sleep.
On the other side, there was the girl who got the marbles today, and she was sleeping comfortably with those marbles close to her chest.
So, friends, we learn from this story that if you remain honest, you will always be at peace. Dishonest people can never live in peace.
2. Story of an intelligent girl not losing patience in difficult times – (5 Inspirational Stories)
A person lived in a city who had started a business. The person suffered huge losses in his business, so he borrowed money with interest.
He was not able to give the money to the person from whom he had borrowed it. One day, the person asking for money was adamant about taking the money. The businessman asked him for some more time, but the man refused to give time because he wanted to marry the businessman’s daughter.
That day, the old man said to the businessman, ‘I will forgive all the debts if you get your daughter married to me.’ The businessman refused this offer because the man asking for money was old.
Then the old man made another offer and said, ‘Let’s play a game in which I will put two stones in a small bag. One stone will be white and the other black. Your daughter has to take out only one stone from that bundle. If she takes out the white stone, I will forgive all the money, and she will not have to get married to me. And if it turns out to be a black stone, I will forgive the loan, but she will have to marry me.
Hearing this, the girl’s father, the businessman, thought, ‘I can’t even say yes because my daughter’s life is at stake, and the old man is not going to leave here today without taking money. So, what to do?’ The father was thinking all this when his daughter said yes to this game.
The next day, the entire village, including the headman and the sarpanch (council leader), all gathered. In front of everyone, the old man picked up two stones from the ground and put them in the bundle.
While the old man was putting stones in the bag, the girl saw that both the stones being put in the bag were black. A black stone means the debt will be forgiven but will have to get married.
Now the girl had three paths in front of her:
(i) If she had refused to play the game, she would have been saved from getting married, but her father’s debt would not have been forgiven.
(ii) If she takes out both the stones from the bag and insults the old man, he will take the amount of the loan and also take revenge sooner or later.
(iii) Keep quiet and take out any black stone, then marry that old man.
The girl did not give up. Instead, she thought for a moment and prepared herself for the game.
The girl was very smart. She didn’t give up; instead, she pondered and prepared for the game. Placing her hand in the bag, she retrieved a stone and deliberately dropped it on the ground. The stone fell and mixed up with many white and black stones.
The girl apologized and said that it fell by mistake, but let’s do one thing. There were two stones in this bundle, one black and one white. Now let’s take out another stone from the bundle and examine it. If a white stone comes out of the bundle, then the one I picked up will be black. If a black stone comes out of the bundle, then the one I picked up will be white.
All the people standing there agreed with him, and the old man got stuck there. After this, another black stone was taken out from the bundle, which proved that the stone that had fallen was white. After this, as per the condition, the old man had to forgive the loan, and the girl did not even have to marry.
From this story, we learn that even in the most difficult situations, one should not lose patience and act wisely, as that girl did. You can get out of any difficulty by applying your mind. Someone has rightly said that the losers of the mind lose, and the winners of the mind win. The girl did not give up and won the game.
3. Make Every Day Count – (5 Inspirational Stories)
It occurred a long time ago. Once, a boy wanted to become rich, and he asked his teacher to tell him one task by which he could earn a lot.
Guru ji took him to a place where many pebbles were lying and said that among all these pebbles, there is one pebble which can turn anything into gold. The identity of that pebble is that it will be hot, while all the other pebbles will be cold.
Find and take the pebble that turns everything into gold.
The boy started working. Every day he would take one pebble in his hand, hold it for two to three seconds, and throw it into the sea so that it would not mix with the other pebbles.
He spent hours and hours in this work every day, for two months, three months, four months, and now he had become fast in this work. It had become his habit to take a pebble in his hand and immediately throw it into the sea without examining it.
He immediately runs to his teacher who advised him about the pebble. The boy said to the teacher, ‘I found the pebble you told me about, but by mistake, I threw it into the sea. What do I do now?
The Guru asked, “Are you sure it was the same hot pebble?”
The boy said, ‘Yes, I am sure it was the same hot pebble, and I threw it into the sea by accident.
Then the Guru explained, “You did not throw that pebble into the water by mistake; rather, it was your daily habit that caused it. Similarly, when we take each day lightly as a habit, we may overlook good opportunities and later regret our actions.”
Consider every pebble carefully; that is, consider every day important. One day, a single pebble can turn your life into gold.
4. Don’t Always Rely on God – (5 Inspirational Stories)
A monk was doing severe penance for many months. One day, during his penance, there was a flood in the village. Everyone was looking for a way to escape to save their lives. People were leaving their houses and heading towards higher ground to try to save themselves. Then, someone saw the sage and warned him to leave, otherwise, he would drown.
The monk said, “Nothing will happen to me. God will save me. I have been doing hard penance for so many years; he will definitely save me.”
After some time, the water reached waist level, and the boat started sailing. When the boatman saw the monk, he said, ‘The last boat is leaving. Come here; otherwise, you will drown.’ Then the monk said, “Nothing will happen to me. God will save me.”
Now the water had increased so much that the monk had to climb the tree. Many helicopters were coming there and saving the lives of the remaining people. One last helicopter caught sight of the sadhu. He threw a rope and said, ‘Come, this is the last helicopter.’ After holding the rope, the monk refused and said, ‘You go. God will save me. I have done penance for Him.’
In this manner, the saint dies due to drowning. After his death, he says to God, ‘I had done so much penance for you, why didn’t you save me?’
God said, ‘You foolish person, I tried to save you thrice: once by coming on foot and warning you, the second time by boat, and the third time by helicopter. Yet, you refused to go.’
Similarly, God gives us many opportunities in life through which we can overcome our problems and reach the heights of success. However, some of us solely trust in God, believing that whatever He wills, He will accomplish. They refrain from working hard, thinking that they will receive whatever is destined for them.
Someone has articulated it well: “Don’t rely solely on God; who knows, God may be relying on you.”
5. Working Hard for Tomorrow – (5 Inspirational Stories)
In the state, a new king was appointed every five years. Upon completing their five-year term, the king was sent to a forest inhabited by wild animals. Once a king completed their five-year term, they too were sent to the forest. Subsequently, a new king would be appointed.
When that wise man becomes a king, he asks the people of his kingdom, ‘Which forest is it where you send the king after the completion of five years?’ The king goes to the forest with his people and sees that it is a very dense forest with the dead bodies of many people lying there, which probably belonged to the kings who had lived before.

The king thinks that after five years the same fate is going to happen to him. He applied his mind and in the very first year, the trees of the forest were cut, the animals were removed, and in the second year, roads started being built near that forest, houses started being built, some places for the poor to live, schools, and colleges were built, and everyone started to build.
By the time five years had passed, the king had wiped out every trace of that forest. In doing so, the king also saved a lot of money for himself. As soon as the five years were over, the king said, ‘Send me to where you sent me after the five years are over.
The king is made to sit in the boat as the river cuts through the forest.
The king is very happy before boarding the boat. People ask him, ‘Why are you so happy?
The king says, “Every king comes and rules for five years and after five years goes to the forest. I did not rule only for five years. With hard work, I converted a dense forest into a city. My five years here have been completed. I will rule for the rest of my life wherever I am going because the king there has done good to many people and given houses to the poor. You work hard today for tomorrow because today decides our tomorrow.”
